Hiking to Mt. Defiance is famously difficult, but there is actually an easy approach. We decided to give it a try to check out the gorgeous panoramas at the top. The peak is covered with communications towers, which include cell towers, FBI and Washington State Police towers (even thought it's in Oregon). There is actually a "road" of sorts so that it's possible to drive up here (on official business, of course) but in the winter, a sno-cat is needed. Most hikers seem to think the towers are hideous eyesores, but we thought they had an unearthly gravity. The views are totally worth the climb.
