Cathedral of Junk

The Cathedral of Junk was Jasper's most favorite place we visited on our Texas trip. It's an incredible structure, like the most amazing treehouse you've ever imagined, created entirely from junk.  It's completely hidden in the backyard of the Austin home of its creator, Vince Hanneman, a really nice guy.  He's figured out a system that works for him- if you want to visit, you have to call him on the phone and make an appointment.  If he's not available to answer the phone, you can't leave a message, you just have to try again.  We felt very lucky that it all worked out and we were able to see his amazing creation.  Jasper said, "He's taken junk and turned it into something wonderful!" It's not a grand statement, but the simple fact of its existence goes to show that we often throw out wonderful things, and the sheer volume of what we throw out is stupefying.  Still, to me the more important message is that if you dream it, you can make it, and you can make art from anything.
