Lan Su Garden

Happy Lunar New Year!  We paid a visit to Portland's Lan Su Chinese Garden to soak in some beauty, tranquility and Chinese culture.  It's just one city block in size, but it feels like you're far away from the bustle of a busy city. The garden was filled with the lovely scent of Chinese paper bush, a winter blooming shrub. This is one of Portland's finest gems. There is a tea house and there are frequent talks and cultural demonstrations.  There are always special events planned for the New Year.

Washington County Libraries and Clackamas County Libraries offer cultural passes that can be borrowed for free admission.  (Multnomah County residents also qualify to get library cards from these library systems.) These cultural passes can make a huge difference if you would like to give the garden a try, but are concerned that your kids might simply run around the garden twice and decide they're ready to leave!

Jasper kept his daddy company and joined him in doing some sketching.
Heavenly scented Chinese paper bush.
