Catherine Creek

Catherine Creek is famous as one of the first local places to have amazing wildflower displays. We were very tempted by the warm weather to get there as soon as possible to see the early blooms. Among the earliest flowers are the grass widows, a purple flower. We always seem to get there as the grass widows are waning.  This time we saw them in their prime, but the other wildflowers were just beginning to bloom.  Catherine Creek is mostly an oak savanna, rocky with lots of sun.  We took the Arch Loop Hike and saw the famous stone arch.
