Thompson's Mills

Thompson's Mills was built in 1864 and is Oregon's oldest water-powered mill. It is now a state park. We went to check it out and found it very quiet and peaceful.  A generous park host gave us a chance to see the floodgates open and the immense gears that once powered the mill begin to turn.  The mill building houses many historical displays and preserved mill equipment.  We were delighted to see this treasure from Oregon's past so well preserved.
Flour sacks from the mill's long history.
A flock of chickens live at the mill, and this rooster was proud to guard them.
The mill stream.
The mill was a family business, and this was the family home, next to the mill.
