Every summer, the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership offers free canoe rides in their big canoes for ages 5 and up, just for the purpose of helping people discover our waters. These canoes are very stable and fun to paddle. We joined some friends on a special trip on the Willamette at dusk. We watched the full moon rise together on the water, saw osprey, sandpipers, herons, and lots of jumping fish, and saw the machinery of the Ross Island Sand and Gravel at work. You get such a different perspective on things from the water. The good folks at the LCEP who put these together are amazing!
