In the fall, when other parts of the country are bright with oranges, yellows and reds, Portland gets very...green. Grass which was very brown over the summer suddenly becomes lush again, mosses grow in thick carpets, and our many conifers just keep on being green as always. We were hungry for some bright colors so we popped over to the Hoyt Arboretum. Hoyt is not just a pretty place to see trees from all over the world, it's also serving a vital mission to help conserve plant biodiversity. It's also home to a tranquil memorial to Vietnam veterans. The atypical summer weather clearly had an effect on fall foliage, but the trees were still gorgeous. It's much lovelier in person, so check it out!
