Portland Winter Light Festival was the first of what I hope will be many. The main venue for the festival was OMSI, with most of the visual and performance art taking place outside the museum on four consecutive evenings and special lectures and science talks taking place inside. OMSI was charging for parking, but the rest of the festival was free. A number of local art spaces participated as well by hosting exhibitions and events. The art may have been mostly spectacle, but it was all engaging, dynamic and really beautiful. The surprise show-stealer was the Portland skyline. OMSI is right on the Willamette river, which flows through the heart of Portland. With the lights of the city and the lights of the Marquam, Tilikum and Hawthorne bridges all reflected in the water, the city glittered like a thousand jewels.
