Frog Lake

Amazing homeschooling mom (and jewelry designer) Alyssa tipped us off to Frog Lake, a mysterious place in the Mt. Hood National Forest that is frog heaven.  It was difficult to get the scoop on this place, but not difficult to find.  From Portland you drive west on 26, past Government Camp, and continuing on 26 past the junction of 35, you make the first left (at the sign for Frog Lake) and follow signs to the day use area.  A Northwest Forest Pass is required.  This is an area that sees spring arrive very late.  There were no frogs to be seen, but as we expected, there were a few tadpoles.  Okay, more than a few...  More than any of us had ever seen before at one place at one time in our entire lives! There were also several osprey, fishing in the lake, which were fascinating to watch. And many swimmers, boaters, and fishermen enjoying this lovely spot with dramatic views of Mt. Hood. Jasper thought it was the best place ever!
