Fogarty Creek State Park

Just south of Lincoln City is Fogarty Creek State Park, which has an incredible beach.  The sandstone sea cliffs are Astoria Formation rocks from the Miocene, and they are embedded with thousands of shellfish fossils.  The rocks and sea caves are fascinating to explore.  Jasper wandered around happily and found what he described as a "jewel".  I congratulated him on finding an agate.  We usually make special trips to the coast just to tidepool and haven't really searched for agates.  If you go, be sure to check the tide tables so that you arrive as the tide is going out.  The sea cliffs would be dangerous if the waves were advancing and you were facing the other way to look for fossils!  (And remember that Oregon beaches are publicly owned, but the sea wall is privately owned and digging fossils out is illegal.)
