More weekend fun

Here are yet more fun events happening this weekend:


Family Clay Nights are back at the Multnomah Arts Center, every Friday until June 10,  6PM-8:30PM, 7688 SW Capitol Hwy., Pdx.  No preregistration required, and no out of district fees are charged.  $10 per hour for a child and parent pair, $4  for each additional child.   "Come as a family and play with clay!  Includes glazes, firings, and 5 lbs of clay.  Use of the potter's wheel by instructor approval only.  Pay at MAC office."  http://www.multnomahartscenter.org/

"Farm Fest 2011 Plowing Competition",  Saturday, April 9, 11AM-3PM, Yamhill Valley Heritage Association, 11275 SW Durham Lane, McMinnville, OR.  Admission $3, kids 12 and under free.  "Experience old time farming as 18-20 teams of draft horses and mules demonstrate their plowing skill and compete for awards.  Parade of Teams and awards at 2PM.  Plus sawmill, blacksmith, and horseshoeing demonstrations, tours of the Heritage Center Museum, kids' area with hands-on activities, food, music and more!"  http://yamhillcountyhistory.org/Events_and_Exhibits.php

"Hometown Tourist Day", Saturday, April 9. "Ilwaco, Warrenton and Astoria are known throughout the region for their tourist attractions, but have you visited these sites? If it has been awhile since you’ve taken the time to “be a local tourist,” the Hometown Tourism Day on Saturday, April 9 might be just the ticket for you. Several local exhibits are working together to offer free or reduced admissions or special programs on this day to encourage their neighbors to come and see what they have to offer. Here is a list of the special activities available this Hometown Tourism Day.

• Cape Disappointment State Park, Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center - 10:00 am-5:00 pm, free admission and ranger programs 
• Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum – 10:00 am-4:00 pm, free admission to all exhibits including the Ilwaco High School Art Show 
• Fort Columbia State Park – 8:00 am-dusk, free admission to grounds and trails (museum closed for winter)

• Astoria Bicentennial Store - 101 15th Street - 10:00am-5:00pm, get a free 2011 button & $1.00 off a "Fort Astoria" pewter ornament 
• Astor Street Opry Company - 7:30 pm, THE REAL LEWIS AND CLARK STORY or How the Finns Discovered Astoria, $5.00 
• Astoria Riverfront Trolley – 12:00-6:00 pm, ride for $1.00
• Hanthorn Cannery Foundation Museum (Bumble Bee Seafoods Interpretive Center) – 8:00 am-5:00pm, 100 39th St., free admission 
• Astoria Column Visitor Center - 9:00am-5:00pm, $1.00/car annual pass, refreshments and door prizes
• Fort Stevens State Park Historic Area -10:00am-4:00pm, $5.00/car includes park & museum admission and living history
• Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Fort Clatsop – 9:00am-5:00pm, free admission and ranger programs

"Second Sunday Series at Cathlapotle Plankhouse", Sunday, April 10, 12PM-4PM, Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge Carty Unit, Ridgefield, WA.  Entrance fee $3 per vehicle.  "Join us at 2pm as we learn a little bit about the Chinuk Wawa language used by tribes along the Columbia River trade route. Members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Chinook Indian Nation will teach participants the history and practice the language and some pronunciation. If weather permits, a walk on the trail will be included to learn some of the Chinuk Wawa names for plants.
