Ivy Baskets

Jasper and I attended a workshop where we learned how to make baskets out of ivy.  It was a blast!  The workshop was taught by Erica Wisner, who is passionate about DIY wildcrafting.  Removing invasive ivy is a really positive thing to do, since it can smother native plants and even kill trees. So much the better if you can do something totally fun with it afterwards!  Ms. Wisner has instructions on her website, and it's a very kid-friendly activity.  If you're skilled enough to weave a God's eye, you can weave a lovely basket.  The first thing she asked everyone to do was to make a circle of ivy for our heads.  Not only did it put everyone in a festive mood, it also demonstrated the first step in the basket making process.

After everyone was done, she asked people to pose with their finished baskets.  There were two other boys who made baskets with us, but they had already left, so only Jasper remained to pose with the lovely ladies.
