Canemah Bluff

Canemah Bluff is a lovely natural area in Oregon City just across the Willamette River from Camassia Natural Area. Although the terrain is very similar, there is a definite contrast between the two natural areas. Canemah Bluff is publicly owned and managed by Metro, and does not have the feeling of being hidden away that Camassia has.    Canemah Bluff has a large parking area next to a nice playground.  A natural area with a playground for young children does not strike me as an ideal place to offleash dogs, and it is not permitted here, but everyone else we encountered there was doing so.  Jasper loves dogs, but was visibly scared when a pitbull shot at him at top speed, its owner nowhere in sight.  (Fortunately it was friendly!)  There are many Oregon white oaks and Pacific madrones bringing a stately splendor to the place.  The views of the Willamette are spectacular, and it is well worth a stop.
