Eagle Creek

Eagle Creek is the place to go to see salmon in the fall.  It's also a great place for a short hike with dramatic views.  When we arrived, there were lots of salmon, but we saw (and smelled) many more dead ones than live ones!  The trail that leads to Punchbowl Falls is very, very steep and has strategically placed handholds to ease your discomfort.  In the spring, the slopes are bursting with wildflowers, but in the autumn it's a good place to see some fall color.

Thank you Audrey! The trailhead with parking is next to the creek, where salmon can be seen. The best view is just over the footbridge. We took the Punchbowl Falls hike http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/wiki/Eagle_Creek_to_Punchbowl_Falls_Hike but just went to Metlako Falls which is about 3 miles round trip. Where the trail is very steep, narrow and usually wet, there is a cable to hang on to. It wouldn't be safe if you were at all challenged about keeping your balance, or for very young kids who might not be consistently observant. Otherwise, it's fine.
