Every year, the
Chelatchie Prairie Railroad in Yakolt, WA runs a special "Christmas Tree Train". Jasper really wanted to do this again this year, because this is where he wanted to visit Santa. Passengers ride the steam powered train through gorgeous scenery, over a bridge and through a tunnel, and stop at the depot. There, you can select a Christmas tree to bring back to your car by train. (This is optional.) Kids meet Santa, and cookies, hot chocolate and cider are served by a campfire. There is a short walk to Moulton Falls, which is quite dramatic and well worth a look. Passengers can ride outside in open air cars, or inside, where there are seats below or up in the cupola of the caboose. The Chelatchie Prairie Railroad is our favorite train ride in the area, and they run trains from May to December.
