We started our Mother's Day at Norse Hall where we thoroughly enjoyed a Viking Pancake Breakfast. In honor of Mother's Day, moms got free mimosas and all enjoyed a bunad fashion show. Bunads are the traditional costume of Norway (I hoped it would include a helmet with horns, but they were beautiful anyway) and this one is a really lovely vintage wedding bunad. They have pancake breakfasts fairly often with special, very light, and very scrumptious pancakes.

Because it was a glorious day, we headed to the Columbia River Gorge for a hike. It's easy for us Oregonians to take it for granted that places like this are all around us here. Boy are we lucky!
Then we stopped at Ohana Hawaiian Cafe for a lovely dinner. They have two locations, on NE Sandy (at 63rd) and in Milwaukie, and the food is amazing. Of course dessert is the most important part of the meal, and if you've never had Hawaiian Shaved Ice, it's like a super gourmet sno-cone! The syrup really soaks into the ice, rather than just forming a sickly sweet puddle at the bottom, and it's heavenly. Jasper always orders them by color, rather than flavor, and he was especially pleased to find out that his gave him a bright blue tongue! My favorite is the Sweet Potato Haupia Pie, which is made from purple yams and coconut custard. Oh, and the rest of their menu is great too!
