Hidden in Clackamas, just waiting to be discovered, is
Mt. Talbert Nature Park. It's where you might least expect it, just on the other side of 205 from the Clackamas Town Center mall. Jasper and I went there to explore and search for signs of spring. We found a lovely spot with winding trails and lots of tiny gurgling streams. Right near the parking lot, we were treated to a loud chorus of frogs, but the singers remained invisible. The trails are well marked, except for one place a vandal seems to have removed the mini trail map but left the signs pointing out the names of each trail. This lead us to take a wrong turn, which actually brought us to lovely areas of the park we would otherwise have missed, but next time I'll download a trail map! We chose a loop that winds around the summit of Mt. Talbert, which is an extinct volcano. There are some paved trails, but most are not paved. Mt. Talbert Nature Park is home to many Oregon white oaks, which provide unique habitat for species not often seen in other woods. It's a delightful spot!
