Another dry day found us looking for what wonders we could find at
Tualatin Hills Nature Park. This lovely nature park is one of our favorites, and unlike many natural areas in the greater Portland area, it is Max accessible (the Merlo Rd. stop on the Blue Line is right next to it). The garter snakes that can be found easily on warm days are surely overwintering, and although we could hear frogs, we couldn't see them. But Jasper did spot one of the park's ubiquitous rough-skinned newts. I'm not sure at all how he found it; it was creeping over the leaf litter and perfectly camouflaged. And after persistently turning over many logs, he found one of his favorite local characters, a 3" long black millipede.
