Milk Carton Boat Races!
Sunday, June 13 are the Milk Carton Boat Races in Westmoreland Park! Recently a friend told me about her fond memories of these races, and wondered if they are still held. It turns out that for seven years, they weren't, but last year the Dairy Farmers of Oregon decided to begin holding them again. They are officially part of the Rose Festival. (Doesn't building a boat together sound like an awesome homeschool project?) Here is a schedule of the events:
11:30AM- Corporate Race
12PM- Adult Race
12:30PM- Family/multi-rider race
1PM- Children Race
3PM- Awards Ceremony

Because I know many of you won't click on the "comments" below, Sharon had this to share: "We went to the races last year (we live nearby). It was a blast, even without the Parade of Showboats. My 5yo wants to build a boat as soon as he is old enough to participate.
If I remember correctly, there were model boats out on the casting pond before the milk carton boats started showing up. The model boat owners were really good about answering questions from the kids." So it sounds like showing up early for model boats would be a great idea! Thank you Sharon!
