Sea Lion Caves

Just north of Florence, OR, we saw a roadside attraction we couldn't resist. Jasper was very excited to see the Sea Lion Caves.  I must admit I had my doubts, because it cost us $20 for the two of us, which is kind of steep.  But this turned out to be a pretty neat place.  There are two trails, one which leads to an outside overlook, and the other which leads to an elevator that descends to the cave itself.  It is one of the largest sea caves in the world, and rather spectacular.  Visitors peer into the cave from a discreet corner which nevertheless provides a great view. Sea lions like to hang out inside the cave, lazing around and making loud, obnoxious noises, much like huge aquatic teenagers.  They offer lots of information about these magnificent beasts, as well as up close views of some  skeletons. There are other places on the coast where sea lions habitually go, but seeing them in this particularly stunning setting was fun.
