Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a lovely area next to the Tualatin River which is best known as an excellent place to see birds. The area is undergoing extensive restoration, including plantings of many lovely native plants. Although the wildflower season is well past us, they have many varieties that are difficult to find anywhere else which are still putting on a vivid display. They also have a lovely nature center with a real bald eagle nest, as well as many other wonders for kids to see, and one of the better nature stores. Jasper's favorite part of our visit, however, was looking for bullfrogs along the edge of the marshy area. We could never see them before they saw us, and they would react by leaping in a dramatic arch into deeper water with a huge "kersplash!" and a startled cry, "EEEEEEE!".
