We spent a lazy summer afternoon at the Sandy River with friends.
Glen Otto Park has an area where lifeguards patrol and offer life jackets to borrow for swimming, and other areas where the water is much more shallow and kids can wade. It was just like heaven! We found what we think was a baby lampry in the water, as well as hundreds of other tiny fish and caddis flies. We watched what I think was a juvenile bald eagle keeping an eye on the river for fish. The lamprey was cool! They are living fossils that haven't evolved much since the Devonian, 360 million years ago, and don't have paired pectoral and pelvic fins, scales, or jaws.
