On a super hot day, we went exploring with friends on the Washougal River and found a perfect spot for swimming and wading. Washougal River Road just east of Washougal, WA runs next to the river and there are numerous turnouts where the river beckons. We found it cold and inviting, and full of smooth river rocks of the sort that crawdads love to hide among. There were crawdads everywhere! We found shells from pearly mussels (but no occupants), caddis fly larvae, snails, and some interesting fish. But mostly cool shade and deliciously cold water!
