Elk Rock Garden

Our homeschool group recently had a ramble at Elk Rock Garden.  It's a spectacular place in the springtime as the magnolias and rhododendrons burst into bloom, with sweeping views of the Willamette River and pools filled with hundreds of frolicking rough-skinned newts. There are no public bathrooms, and picnics and games are not permitted on its wide lawns. Still it's one of Portland's many hidden gems and a lovely spot for quiet meanderings.

Lily of the valley- a most heavenly scent!
This impressive cone seems to be from an Atlas cedar.
