Pendleton Woolen Mill Factory

Ok, they don't allow anyone to take pictures!  Which made me sad because the vintage machinery is quite beautiful and alien all at the same time. But the Pendleton Woolen Mill  tour in Washougal is way cool!  And it is completely free.  For small groups (under 10)  all you need to do is show up because they offer tours four times a day.  The machinery is loud enough at several points that it would be hard for the guide to be heard, so they give everyone headphones and small radios through which  you can easily hear his voice at the volume you choose.  Crazy H. G. Wells machines dye the wool, make it into thread, and weave it before your eyes.  When rad homeschooling mom Mary set a tour up for our homeschool group, we were all quite impressed!  I had never heard of this tour, and wanted to spread the word.
