Tryon Creek

Our homeschool group had a ramble at Tryon Creek State Park on a lovely June morning.  Having a state park in city limits is pretty amazing, and this park is one of the city's loveliest gems.  There are lots of what we like to call "play structures" along the trails (huge logs, snags, and root balls from fallen giants). Paths wind down to a gently rippling creek which is traversed by many bridges.  Here are some of the wonders we discovered.

A dead mole.  When we occasionally find these, and they always seem to be completely intact.
I've read that they taste terrible to predators but can't confirm that.
