Sarracenia Northwest is a remarkable nursery in Eagle Creek. They have all imaginable kinds of carnivorous plants lurking throughout the grounds. Normally they sell from their website or at the
Saturday Market, but twice a year they hold an open house for their legions of fans. Their summer open house is awesome because they serve up hot dogs, hamburgers, and delicious Italian sodas, and let their gorgeous plants put on a show. They have pitcher plants that trap their insect victims deep inside pitfall traps, and slowly digest them. They have sundew plants covered with sparkling drops of sticky doom. They have butterworts with leaves like fly paper. And of course they have Venus flytraps, with jaws that snap like a steel trap. If you are very quiet and listen closely, the sound of buzzing insects struggling inside traps is all around you. Their next open house will be the weekend of September 7 and 8.
