Lookout Mountain

Lookout Mountain at Mt. Hood has just become one of my favorite hikes.  There are many open meadows which even in late summer are teeming with wildflowers, many of which thrive at high elevations and I'd never seen them before. And there are the views.  Wow!  They really took my breath away.  We came on a gorgeous summer weekend, and although we did see other hikers, it was far from crowded. This is a loop hike which is about 3 miles long with minimal elevation gain.

We only had a brief glimpse, but we marveled to see a male
black-backed woodpecker. He was quite noisy.

Indian hellebore.  My guidebook says it is "violently poisonous" and was used medicinally
by native people.
