Marquam Mosaic Project

Patrick and Jasper embossing clay with a leaf impressions.
The Friends of Marquam Nature Park, artist Lynn Takata and poet Edna Kovacs have been working very hard to collaborate with Portland families to create what should be a really amazing piece of public art at the Marquam Nature Park shelter. We were lucky to participate by making a couple of mosaic leaves, and Jasper made a ceramic leaf for the project.  Jasper's friend Patrick and his lovely mom Catherine (of Explore Portland Nature blog) were there, so it was definitely a party!  They will be holding many more workshops at the nature park itself throughout August, making more ceramic pieces and installing mosaics. (All the workshops will be drop-in with no registration required, for ages 5 and up.) Then on September 28 there will be a big dedication party. We can't wait to see it!
Jasper's mosaic leaf (which will be fused together).

My mosaic leaf (made with regular mosaic tiles).
