Dee Wright Observatory

Dee Wright Observatory is on the MacKenzie Pass, State Route 242 near Sisters, OR.  At 5,187 feet, it has amazing views in all directions. The views are unobstructed by trees because the entire area is covered in an unearthly blanket of basalt rocks, spit up from the magma that lurks beneath the surface.  Visitors climb up to a room with carefully positioned windows.  Plaques below each window tell which peak is framed by its rough blocks. At the top of the structure is a full panorama with a brass peak finder.  If you are headed this way, be sure not to miss it!
