Noble Woods Park is a rather nice nature park tucked away in the heart of bustling Hillsboro. Many of the trails are paved, but the park has a relaxed feeling because bicycle riding is prohibited. One trail leads down to Rock Creek, and giant stepping stones make it fun to cross to the other side, where a small pond can be found. The creek is very shallow here, and when we visited, many families paused to let their little ones beat the heat splashing in the cool water. Jasper came prepared to investigate the creek. He found two kinds of fish and Asian clam, as well as many aquatic snails. The fish were interesting. Usually he finds tiny trout fry, with faint stripes along their bodies. One kind had an overall shape and fins resembling trout fry, but without stripes. The others resembled sculpin. They had a very different body shape and fins, and behaved differently in our jar, resting near the bottom rather than darting around the middle.
