Wahtum Lake

Wahtum Lake in Mt. Hood National Forest is a lovely spot for an easy hike, with stunning vistas.  It is well worth the effort to get there, and would be an extraordinary place to camp. We explored there recently, and here are some things we discovered.

Alpine lily.

Rosy twistedstalk.

Black gooseberry.

Before long there will be huckleberries.

Monkeyflower.

Fringecup.

This spiderweb was suspended in midair more than 7 feet from any tree.  Amazing!

Slime mold oozing on a log.

I believe this is a kind of mustard.

I showed Jasper how click beetles can right themselves when turned over, with
a sharp clicking sound.  He thought this beetle was very cool.
