We never miss a Newt Day!
Tualatin Hills Nature Park throws a salamander-themed party every fall that is always worthwhile. Even if they didn't share lots of fascinating information about the park's resident salamanders, it would be thoroughly worthwhile just to take a gander at what they were able to catch! This year there were of course lots of newts, and also lots of garter snakes, long-toed salamanders, a bull frog, and lots of banana slugs, which they were racing! I'm always impressed with long-toed salamanders, which are shy creatures. They have a letterboxing challenge (which I believe is still ongoing) but we found it unnecessary to tempt us to explore the park. We found lots and lots of amazing mushrooms and even ran into one of the park's famous newts!
