Thanksgiving at Oxbow

Every year at Oxbow Regional Park there is a Thanksgiving gathering where Metro naturalist Dan Daly and naturalist and animal tracking expert Terry Kem share the Thanksgiving Address passed down by the Iroquois Nation. We began with a short walk through this lovely park on a trail that passes by the Sandy River.  Dan Daly used his bow drill to start a fire (essentially by rubbing sticks together) in just a few minutes, always a most impressive sight.  Then the Thanksgiving Address began, with many people taking turns to express thanks for different aspects of the natural world with gratitude and reverence.  Hot chocolate and good will were shared.  The wonders of nature and the fellowship of friends and family- lots to be thankful for indeed!
